Martha's Vineyard, MA

In order to comply with complicated historic and conservation permitting requirements, JNA removed the existing house and utilized its footprint to build a new two storey house. Ultimately, we crafted a new structure with a moderately historical referential exterior, while the interior opens up to large contemporary spaces and huge views of Vineyard Sound.

The owner enjoys entertaining large groups of family and friends in an informal environment. The materials of the house speak to this informality, with raw stone and concrete fireplaces, poured concrete floors, and moveable hydraulic kitchen work surfaces that convert to dining tables. Random width red cedar walls add a rustic richness in contrast to the contemporary concrete and stone elements.
